Why Visit Buenos Aires?

Allow us to introduce to you the magnificent, large and sprawling capital city of Argentina, a destination full of zest, glamour and plenty of flavour - Buenos Aires. This is the city that proudly birthed the tango, a dance that has altered Argentinian culture and helped unify all walks of life, from the working-class European immigrants to the native Argentinians and former slaves.

Its incredible dual European and Latin American heritage is what gives this remarkable city its interesting and diverse flare. But the diversity of the city doesn’t just stop at the mesmerising architecture or its people, it is also found in Buenos Aires' flavour-driven food and wines. The food scene in Buenos Aires is a carnivore’s idea of heaven. Find the juiciest steaks at Parrillas (steakhouses), grilled to perfection and sizzling with rich and smoky flavours. Many locals often pair their meaty dish with a glass of bonarda - a fruity Argentine red considered to be the second most important red grape, with Malbec being the first.

Plan your wine holidays to Buenos Aires, a city well-known for producing high-quality wines, mostly in the town of Médanos which is located in the southern parts of Buenos Aires Province - an ideal location for winegrowing. The grapes, thanks to the windy springs, develop thicker skin giving the wine a more intense colour and long sunlight exposure increases the sugar content in the grapes. It’s close location to the ocean also means the Médanos terroir consists of sandy soil as opposed to limestone. Wines you can expect to get from Médanos include Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Tannat, Chardonnay, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo.

Best time to visit

If you're planning your wine holidays to Buenos Aires and wondering when the best time to go is, we recommend the autumn months of April, May and June, as well as the spring months of September, October, November and December. Travelling during this period means fewer crowds, moderate temperatures and gorgeous foliage. If you enjoy the passion involved in Argentina's traditional dance, then you must visit during August, for the world-famous Tango International Festival! They'll be two beautiful week's worth of free concerts, classes, performances, and of course, the international tango championship!

How long to stay

We recommend staying anywhere between 3 to 4 days in Buenos Aires to see its most popular landmarks like the Casa Rosada (the Presidential Palace) or the cobbled streets of San Telmo to explore the excellent lines of tango clubs. Eat at the infamous steakhouses and whatever you do, don't leave without trying Asado   - one of the countries most popular dishes. Explore the region of Mendoza as part of your vineyard holiday and visit the many wineries that call this remarkable province home. Sample the delicious styles of wine, such as award-winning Malbecs and top quality Bonarda. Cast your eyes on the spectacular views of the Andes mountains which will provide the backdrop to a lot of your wine adventures!
