Hotel overview
Castello di Potentino is an ancient castle built on an Etruscan site. It lies in a secret valley in one of the last undiscovered corners of Tuscany – Monte Amiata – just 30km from Montalcino. The medieval building is surrounded by unspoilt countryside, dotted with the vines and the ancient olive trees used for the estate’s small production of high-quality wine, grappa and oil.
The abandoned castle and vast estate was bought and carefully restored in 2000 by the Greene family. New vineyards were planted and ancient olive trees nursed back into production; the large bedrooms were thoughtfully designed and decorated to offer a sense of tradition and place.
Staying at Potentino is like being invited into a private home and the Greene’s welcome guests to drink the estate wine and to stay overnight in one of 8 unique and luxurious bedrooms in the main castle.
The views from throughout the estate are stunning. Relax under the loggia or explore the gardens. There is also a very beautiful swimming pool in the olive groves above the castle.
