4-Day Tbilisi Wine Tour

At the cross-roads of East and West, the small country of Georgia is diverse and unique. Its ancient history and traditions; beautiful monasteries and UNESCO World Heritage Sites; mouthwatering cuisine, world famous wine and hospitality makes Georgia a spectacular destination. 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arrival to Tbilisi International Airport, meet your local guide. Start with the Tbilisi city tour to visit Metekhi Church. The Narikala Fortress-Cable car will take you to the top of mountain to the old ruins of Narikala fortress where you will enjoy the panorama of the city.

Later, visit the old Baths - a touch of Old Tbilisi. The Sulfur Baths, built in 17th century, have subterranean pavilions topped by unique the red brick domes with steam from the hot springs streaming from their tops, giving a magical atmosphere to this historic area of old homes and interesting shops. You’ll have one hour to enjoy the sulphur bath, scrub and massage.

Continue along Rustaveli Avenue and take a tour of the Opera and Ballet Theatre with time to attend the rehearsal as well. Then continue to your hotel to check in. 

Dinner this evening is at Shadow of Metekhi restaurant which enjoys marvellous views over the town.

Day 2: Travel to the town of love – Sighnaghi, nestled inside the protective wall on top of a cliff and overlooking the valley of Alazani River. After a walking tour, pay a visit to Pheasant’s Tears Winery to learn more about the Georgian traditional way of winemaking and taste their exquisite wines. 

Continue to a farmer’s cellar-winery where you can observe traditional wine making equipment and also take part in 'Shoti' Georgian bread baking and 'Churchkhela' Georgian sweets making. Then enjoy lunch at this winery.

In the afternoon, visit the 19th century estate of the Chavchavadze family. It used to be a summer residence of the family and hosted many meetings of Georgian elite. Take a walk in the estate gardens, visit the mansion and taste wines from the 19th century winery. 

Your tour won’t be complete without visiting a master who makes Qvevri – earthenware clay jars buried underground for wine storage. Return to Tbilisi for overnight.

Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel, take a fun excursion of Mtskheta by old Soviet car.

Mtskheta, the first capital city of Georgia (listed by UNESCO) is located at the confluence of two rivers - Mtkvari and Aragvi. Founded in the second half of the first millennium BC, at the same time as Eastern Georgia Kingdom-Iberia. It was a capital city until the ruler Vakhtang Gorgasali decided to move the capital to Tbilisi. Visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral where you’ll listen to the choir performing Georgian ecclesiastic songs. 

Transfer to Ateni village where you’ll have a delicious lunch and taste wines of Kartli province at Vacheishvili Winery (Mr. Vacheishvili is a former Minister of Culture of Georgia). 

Following lunch, stop at the cave town of Uplistsikhe which used to be one of the main stops of the Great Silk Road in Georgia. 

Travel to Gori to see where the infamous Joseph Stalin was born, his actual home and the museum. Return to Tbilisi and enjoy the evening before dinner at a local family where the hostess will teach you how to prepare Khinkali and Khachapuri – traditional Georgian dishes.

Day 4: Transfer to Tbilisi International Airport for onward departure flight.
