Tour Overview
This private 5 Day Greek Wine Experience Package is perfect for a long weekend in Athens and offers an immersive introduction into the diversity of Greek wine, with some tasty local food thrown in for good measure!
Day 1: Welcome to Athens!
On arrival at Athens International Airport you will be met by your driver and transferred to your centrally located Athens hotel.
In the early in the afternoon, meet your guide for a walking tour to the iconic Acropolis. Enjoy a guided tour of the Acropolis museum and the old city of Plaka. Then it is time to eat! Dinner will be in a restaurant at the foot of the Acropolis. The sommelier will be happy to suggest the perfect Greek wine to accompany your meal.
Day 2: Tour of the Attica region wineries
Today is devoted to the Attica region and its wineries. The Mesogaia valley, a mere 30km from downtown Athens, is covered with over 650 hectares of vines. The region is known for Retsina Greek wine, which is now considered to be one of the most interesting grapes Greece has to offer. The area is also famous for its figs and pistachios. During this tour you will visit two of the most important wineries in East Attica. You will be guided to the vineyards and learn about the wine production. Lunch will be provided at the second winery, accompanied with wine from the vineyard.
Day 3: Evia Island wine tour & cooking class
After breakfast you will be met and transferred to Evia Island - the 2nd largest Greek island, connected to mainland Greece by a bridge. The island's topography is a mix of hills and mountains, low fields and plains. Grape varieties are the same as those found on the Cyclades and the rest of the Greek mainland. You will visit the Avantis Estate and enjoy a tour of the vineyards where their famous Syrah is being produced, and a wine tasting. Then head to Chalkis, the capital city of Evia, where after a short walk you will participate in a cooking class. This will be followed by a late lunch enjoying the food you have produced accompanied by a selection of Evia Island wines.
Day 4: Full day tour to Nemea wine region
Today you will visit another wine producing region - Nemea - which is just 1.5 hours drive from Athens, across the Corinth canal. Nemea is home to the Agiorgitiko grape, however the terroir is suitable for a wide variety of grapes and regional wineries are producing wines from Viognier, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Greek varietals. After a guided tour of the city, visit a well-known Nemea winery for a wine tasting. After lunch explore the city of Nafplio which was the 1st capital of Greece before returning to your hotel.
