Tour Overview
Discover the fine wines of cool climate vineyards in the Elgin area of the Western Cape with this bespoke, private, full day wine tasting tour.
Over the course of the day you will visit up to six wineries in the Elgin wine region which can be chosen according to your wine preferences.
Your expert tour guide has visited most of the world’s wine producing regions and has been involved in the South African wine industry for over 35 years. He has some excellent industry contacts and will be able to answer any question you may have on wine.
The Elgin region has around 800 hectares of vines divided among 16 farms, most of which are conveniently close to each other making for easy visiting. Their wines are, quite simply, somewhat different from their 'lowland' neighbours. They benefit from the region's cooler terroir with an elegance and finesse that typifies handcrafted wines.
The old days of apples after apples and more apples in the Elgin Valley are giving way to a fresh, vibrant approach to winemaking. For those who always said that Elgin was ideal for viticulture, you are indeed vindicated.
From an educational perspective, the full day experience will also provide an opportunity, subject to availability and prior appointment, for you to take a cellar tour, meet with the winemaker, assistant winemaker or viticulturist to get a personal perspective on the winery and its wine as well as the uniqueness of cool climate vineyards of the Western Cape.
Please note: Your guide will discuss the itinerary with you prior to embarking on your tour in order to take into consideration your wine preferences. The option is available to modify the program as you travel. Lunch is also to your own preference - your expert guide will recommend and arrange a lunch venue for you.
