Tour Overview
Spend the day exploring the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin in depth, visiting three of the region’s top wineries. Discover the versatility of the Tempranillo grape variety and a region that, in just a few years, has become the Spanish avant-garde of international wine.
Your expert guide for the day is Enrique, a passionate wine maker and professional wine tourism guide with a WSET level 3 wine expert certification. He will be able to answer any questions you have about wine.
During the day as you travel through the beautiful landscape, you will visit three wineries that represent the diversity of the region, tasting different styles of wines made with the Tempranillo grape as a base. You will have the opportunity to meet with wine producers and visit their underground cellars where some of the best wines in Spain are aging in ideal conditions.
You will visit a family who have been making wine for centuries and are considered the fathers of modern Ribera del Duero wines. This family continues aging their wines in an underground cellar excavated in the 16th century.
Then you will visit a modern winery that mixes avant-garde architecture with functionality and integration into the landscape. Grapes coming from more than 50 years old vines established on the golden mile of the Ribera del Duero produce the most high-end wines of the area: a sign that elegance and smoothness are not incompatible with power.
The third winery is dedicated to micro-elaborations of organic and biodynamic wines in a winery built with natural materials. They produce very high-quality wine that is difficult to find on the international market.
Lunch will be a traditional menu based on suckling lamb and local products in the winery itself, sharing a table with the owner and once again pairing his wines with the menu.
After lunch, visit some of the most significant castles that the reconquest troops left in this border area between Arab and Christian kingdoms throughout the Middle Age before returning to Madrid.
