Winery Overview
Discover the family-run Barone di Villagrande estate, situated on Etna’s slopes at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level.
The Barone di Villagrande vineyards slope down towards the Ionian Sea into a natural amphitheatre. This land has belonged to the Nicolosi Asmundo Family since the 18th century and today the wine-making family maintain their commitment to respecting and enhancing the heritage of the family and the peculiarities of the wine-growing area .
The goal of the Barone di Villagrande team is to share the natural heritage of Etna, to respect the precious heritage of the environment, and to work with full respect towards its delicate balances. Intervention is limited to assisting the plants, first, and then the grapes. The wines that come to life in the wine cellars are expressions of the territory, the vines and the vintage.
Barone di Villagrande welcomes wine-enthusiasts and wine-fascinated visitors to their vineyards and historic wine cellars. They provide guided tours that explain the history of the family and Etna wine, their unique use of chestnut wood barrels and how the gravitational system of vinification works. This is followed, of course with wine tasting and there is an opportunity to try the dishes of the Etnean kitchen paired with Villagrande wines.
It is also possible to stay overnight in the elegant Wine Resort. Nestled amongst forests and historic vineyards, the manor house features an infinity pool with scenic views and just four characterful rooms.
