Planeta Ulmo

The Planeta family has been deeply involved in Sicilian agriculture for 5 centuries and 17 generations. Their work on the island has contributed to the regeneration of Sicilian winemaking, and the company today cultivates vineyards and olive groves, producing wine and extra virgin olive oil, in five areas of the island from east to west.  

The story began at Ulmo. Vineyards, olive groves and nature in its surprising beauty embrace the ancient historical barn in the Ulmo estate. In the middle of the 1980’s the Planeta family planted their first vines around the 16th century farmhouse which the family has always owned. Their first winery was built nearby in 1995, on the banks of Lake Arancio. It was the starting point of a revolution in the world of wine within a territory chosen due to its potential and versatility.

Planeta’s most representative wines are produced at Ulmo: Planeta Chardonnay, the company’s great classic, a single-variety wine and super cru, and La Segreta Bianco and Rosso, the labels of everyday drinking which bear the name of the woods which surrounded the Ulmo estate.

The Planeta family have always combined their passion for Sicily with a desire to warmly welcome those who wish to discover it. Because of this their wineries have never merely been places to produce wine but have also been devoted to hospitality, linked to cooking, nature and the local culture.  

Visit the winery at Ulmo and you will experience the uniqueness of the place, the distinctive wines produced there and the beauty of the countryside. A nature footpath, La Segreta, leaves from the winery and leads to exploration of three different paths which border the vineyards, discovering untouched corners and unexpected views.
