Winery Overview
Vondeling Wines is located in the Western Cape wine region of Voor-Paardeberg, an area easily accessible from Cape Town but with all the charm of an undiscovered and unspoilt country landscape. It was granted to Swedish immigrant Oloff Bergh in 1704, and after this, a three-century-old winemaking tradition began. The views it commands of the mountains and vineyards can be seen from every direction and are breath-taking.
It holds approximately 100 hectares of vineyard which fan across the south-facing slopes and foothills of the Paardeberg Mountain, and with the decomposed granite soil and the habitual afternoon south-westerly winds, produce stunning vibrant wines.
Vondeling is committed to the conservation of its unique biodiversity and using an environmentally sensitive approach to farming, and minimal intervention during the winemaking process, it ensures that the wines keep their unique ‘fingerprint’ of origin. So committed it is to this type of farming, it has named its flagship wines, Vondeling Babiana, and Vondeling Monsonia after rare species of fynbos that are endemic to the Paardeberg mountain, Vondelings home.
As a destination Vondeling includes a historic Cape Dutch homestead, a beautifully appointed tasting room and St Clement’s Chapel; a consecrated church and wedding venue. Tastings of Vondelings range of celebrated wines are available in the tasting room throughout the week.
Please note: Vondeling is closed on weekends unless prior arrangements are made with management. Please get in touch here to check availability.
