Tour Overview
Experience how Greeks and Romans were already growing grapes and producing wine on Hvar 300 years well before Christ was born. Sip and savor your way through the wines of Hvar island and visit three of Croatia’s most esteemed winemakers on this tour.
On this half-day tour you will have a chance to taste four or five different wines, accompanied by the island’s finest local appetisers, with all informations needed to satisfy your curiosity.

In the Sveta Nedjelja village, by the waterside, the Plenković family formed their horticulturist company in early 1986. The winery is responsible for Croatia’s only Grand Cru, and another unforgettable feature is the unique underwater wine cellar overlooking the bottom of the sea.
In Jelsa, a small coastal town with a long winemaking tradition, the Tomić family cultivate indigenous grapes as well as experimenting with new ones. Pay particular attention to Prošek, the original Dalmatian wine made from selected grapes of the highest local quality.
Also in Jelsa, young and ambitious ”wine newcomers” without vineyards or with very small land plots, basing wine production on grapes purchased from other farmers. In Croatia, Dubokovic wines have become a ”must-have” in the finest restaurants, hotels and specialised wine shops. Dubokovic – Medvid wines now have the distinction of being the most expensive regular vintage wines in the country.
In the village of Vrisnik you will meet the only woman among winemakers, Jo Ahearne. She moved few years ago on the island from Great Britain and she is an academically trained winemaker and first Master of Wine producing in Croatia. Her knowledge and indigenous grapes from the islands of Hvar and Korčula make a perfect combination in wine bottles. In every sip you will find the love of grapes and sophisticated flavour of wine.
In the largest village of Vrbanj, on the island, the Plančić family started in 1919 and continues until the present day, to combine tradition and modern oenological achievements. In every glass you will find the love of grapes, authenticity of the ecologically protected area, and harmony of the indigenous but courageous wine producers.
Last but not least, the Carić family in Vrboska have been involved with vineyards for as long as they remember. However, it was not before Vino Hvar was established that they started producing their own “Carič wines”. The family have 5-hectares of vineyards in a specially designated wine growing area known as “Vinogorje Hvar.
