Tour Overview
Santorini may not spring to mind when you think of wine. This private tour is an excellent introduction to the wines produced on this beautiful island. Over the course of five hours you will learn more about the wine producing history, the distinctive grapes and get to taste the final product.
The tour begins in the village of Mesa Gonia, the main wine producing area on the island of Santorini. You will visit the Volcanic Slopes Vineyards winery, which dates back to the 18th century. Enjoy a tour of the winery: admire the surrounding view of vineyards amongst the black volcanic stone, pass through the canava’s old functional spaces and end in the impressive cellar. VSV winery produces exclusively a single wine called ‘Pure’, which is made from 100% Assyrtiko grapes. After the tour you will enjoy a tasting of 4 varieties of Pure Santorini Assyrtiko.
Continue onto a one-of-a-kind wine museum that is nestled eight metres underground in a 300 metre long cave! It's a wonderfully atmospheric place to learn more about wine production in Santorini, get a glimpse into life as a winemaker on the island and sample some of the locally produced wines.
