Tour Overview
Discover Puglia and learn the history of the region's olive oil with this half-day guided bike tour.
Starting out from Montalbano you’ll reach the olive grove plain and the ancient Traiana road. In the past this road connected Rome to Brindisi, today it links Fasano and Ostuni. It is a paved cycling path with hardly any traffic, full of spots of interest that showcase traditional rural life in Puglia.
During the tour you will learn about the history of olive oil from cultivation to harvest, and the different production methods depending on its final use: from use as lamp oil to the high quality extra virgin olive oil we all know and love.
On the trail you will visit a hypogeum oil mill with old millstone and presses, a fortified masseria farmhouse, a modern mill and a centenary olive tree and, of course, enjoy olive oil tasting.
Please note: Between 15 June and 31 August the tour only runs in the afternoon starting around 5pm in order to come back by sunset.
This tour is also available on a private basis for a supplement of 150 Euro per group.
