Tour Overview
Discover Umbria, the so-called "Green Heart of Italy", a region not only with a lush nature but also full of ancient towns with cobblestone streets, stunning cathedrals and old fortresses, a place rich of tasty foods and good wines.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Upon arrival at the hotel Posta dei Donini in San Martino in Campo, near Perugia, check-in and get ready for a welcome dinner of traditional fare and Slow Food Presidia products from Umbria at l’Osteria I Birbi in Torgiano.
Day 2: In the morning visit Orvieto, situated on top of a rock offering the most splendid of views. You can tour the city, including the Duomo Gothic Cathedral.
Visit the Palazzo del Gusto, head office of the Enoteca Regionale of Umbria on a guided tour, followed by a light lunch consisting of a tasting of Umbrian wines accompanied by local fare.
Before heading off you can stop at the Adriano pastry shop to try Orvieto’s typical cakes and desserts, including chocolates made with chillies and saffron.
In the afternoon you can visit Todi, a splendid medieval town, where it is pleasant to wander around and discover the old monuments and craftshops.
Day 3: Depart to Montefalco, a splendid town situated on top of a hill, offering spectacular views over the hills. Visit the ancient olive groves - 3,000 plants - belonging to the Azienda Romanelli family, to discover the many plant varieties and the extra virgin olive oil production techniques, and enjoy a tasting.
On the road to Assisi, you can stop in Bevagna, an ancient medieval town that has held on to its characteristics. Arriving in Assisi, visit the town, including the Basilica of St Francis. Proceed to Caseificio Broccatelli for a cheese tasting.
Day 4: Upon arrival in Torgiano, visit the Azienda Lungarotti and sample their extra virgin olive oil and visit the MOO – Olive and Oil Museum.
Next you can travel Perugia, perched on a hill, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Visit the Perugina chocolate museum, famous for its Baci Perugina chocolates.
Enjoy some free time to discover the old city and stop off at the historical Pasticceria Sandri pastry shop, followed by a nice dinner with dishes of the traditional Umbran cuisine at the Osteria La Lumera.
Day 5: Discover Lake Trasimeno, one of the largest in Italy, to visit some of the characteristic towns around the lake. Visit the Azienda Madrevite and its cellars and take a pleasurable stroll in the vineyards. Enjoy a tasting of olive oil and typical products.
You will have time to discover Castiglione del Lago, followed by dinner at the Trattoria l’Acquario, where traditional dishes, including the Fagiolina del Lago (Slow Food Presidium) will be served.
Day 6: Departure.
