Full Day Wine Tour
Wednesdays & Fridays
Highlights:
- Pick-up (if in Funchal)
- 12 Wine Tastings
- 4 Visits to Local Wine Producers
- Typical Madeiran Lunch
For over 5 centuries, Madeira wine´s popularity spans all over the world, so much that most people know the wine better than they know the island. Yes, Madeira is well known for its fortified wine, but did you know the island also produces still wines?
Over the course of your day with us, you will not only taste Madeira wine (our famous fortified wine) and our young still wines (Madeiran white and red wines) but also take part on a journey through the wine-making process from the vineyards to the glass of wine.
You will learn about Madeira’s terroir and wine production process during our day and our visits and tastings to 4 different wine producers.
What you can expect from your Full Day Wine Tour:
After all the pick-ups, you´ll start your day with a visit in Funchal, to the Blandy’s Wine Lodges – one of the oldest and main Madeira Wine producers in the Island. You´ll tour their cellars where you will learn about the wine making process and a tasting of 2 Madeira Fortified Wines.
Now it’s time to cross the Island and go to the North Coast where you will have lunch, but not before passing through our UNESCO classified World Heritage Laurissilva forest.
The next stop will be on the north coast of the island in the municipality of São Vicente, the second largest grape growing county in Madeira. Here you will do a Wine Tasting at a Still Wine producer's Vineyard. Lunch will be served at the winery and harmonised with their own wines. You will be served a typical Madeiran meal.
After lunch you´ll head to Seixal, where you'll visit the home of a Madeiran still wine producer. Here you will get the chance to have yet another wine tasting and savour some homemade local snacks made by the wine producer herself.
Time and wine flies when you are having a good time. It is time to return to the south coast, but before you travel back to Funchal you will make one last stop at Barbeito’s, another Madeira Wine producer in Câmara de Lobos where you will taste some very special Fortified Madeira Wines.
The return to Funchal will be around 5:00 p.m. arriving at the city centre at 5:30 p.m.. Throughout the tour, an expert guide in Madeira Wine shall provide all the main information on the wine growing region, its wines and its history. All tastings will be guided so you can understand and appreciate them. All wines tasted on this tour can be bought at the cellars/producers. Our tours are done in comfortable and air-conditioned minibuses and always in the company of a knowledgeable and friendly English-Speaking Guide.
