Tour Overview
Spend the day exploring the upcoming Madrid wine region, visiting three wineries from the Designation of Origin “Vinos de Madrid”. The DO Vinos de Madrid has been making great wines for more than 30 years and nowadays these wines are proudly competing with Rioja or Ribera del Duero to be among the most reputed wines from Spain.
Your expert guide for the day is Enrique, a passionate winemaker and professional wine tourism guide with a WSET level 3 wine expert certification. He will be able to answer any questions you have about wine.
40 minutes away from Madrid’s city centre the countryside is dotted with olive groves and vineyards interspersed with cereal fields and medieval towns that treasure a great historical heritage.
You will visit three wineries and learn about Madrid wines from the hand of their oenologists and winemakers. Taste at least 9 of their wines including reds, whites and rosés and learn about the winemaking techniques that fuse tradition and innovation.
At the first winery, the owner will explain about growing organic grapes in Spain and share the secret behind viticulture in one of the driest landscapes of Europe without using any irrigation systems. You will taste his beautiful blends out of Airen, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Wines will be paired with fresh appetizers and local cheese served on a terrace with countryside views.
At the second stop you will discover why wineries in Spain used to be in the centre of the villages instead of out in the countryside. This winery has been producing wines for more than 150 years and features a huge cave 35 feet underground that houses over 100 clay jars with 3500 litres capacity each.
At the third winery you will witness how some Spanish winemakers are still producing their artisan wines in ancestral clay pots. Five generations from the same family produce well balanced wines with Malvar and Tempranillo in a centennial facility including a wine cellar originally excavated by monks back in the XVI century. This last winery produces a unique Madrid quality sparkling wine which you will have the opportunity to taste.
Time for lunch! You will have the chance to eat at one of the most reputed restaurants from the region. Frequented by the Spanish royal family and many other celebrities, this restaurant is located in the medieval village of Chinchón. Enjoy from the a la carte or set menu pairing their traditional dishes with local wines.
After lunch there will be time to walk around and discover some of the most hidden and beautiful corners of this quaint village before returning to the city.
