Winery Overview
Discover Tenuta Monte Gorna, located on Mt. Etna, at an altitude of 760 metres, in the Càrpene district , one of Etna's 133 districts, along the Etna Wine Road. It is a place of untamed beauty, immersed in the regional park.
The company is named after one of the extinguished craters that surround Etna, tracing the outline of the south-east side of the volcano.
Tenuta Monte Gorna is a family business driven by a pure passion for the land and for wine, a passion handed down from father to son for three generations. The second generation is credited with restoring the family-owned land, which they entirely replanted with vines. The mission of the third generation is to raise awareness about the volcanic wines of Tenuta Monte Gorna among Italian and foreign consumers through their participation in Vinitaly 2012.
The vineyards of Tenuta Monte Gorna are wedged between the two extinguished craters of Mount Gorna and Mount Ilice, surrounded by forests of oak and chestnut trees. They are planted with Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes for the production of Etna red and with Carricante and Catarratto grapes for the production of Etna white. These are the varieties that constitute the foundation of DOC Etna wines.
The vineyards, cultivated for over ten years with organic farming methods, are surrounded by massive terraces of dry stone walls that symbolise the history of an extremely ancient rural landscape. The soil, formed by the decomposition of lava, is sandy, has a skeleton texture and is rich with organic and mineral substances. The vineyards’ vicinity to the forests and substantial difference in temperature between day and night promote the ideal maturation of the grapes, giving Tenuta Monte Gorna wines their unique and distinct character.
Visiting wine lovers can enjoy vineyards visits and wine tastings of three wines Etna DOC paired with traditional Sicilian products.
