Winery Overview
Discover Venissa winery, situated on the island of Mazzorbo, home to a vineyard that has been overcoming the challenge of the high tide giving rise to a wine with characteristics that are unique to this world.
The vineyard is located on the island of Mazzorbo in the heart of the Lagoon Park where the soil make’s up only 8% of the surface area. It is a unique vineyard where the vine has found its magical equilibrium between the fertility of a soil well-suited to grape growing and the continuous threat of salt and water.
Dorona, known as the Golden Grape during the age of the Venetian Doges is an autochthonous grape variety that almost became extinct. In 2007 the vineyard was replanted with 4000 Dorona vine cuttings in an area of 0,8 hectares. In the coming years, Venetian Dorona gained worldwine recognition.
In the two hectares of the estate guests can also find vegetable plots, orchards, flowers and gardens.
Venissa wine bottles are a blend of two Venetian traditions linked to gold: Dorona, the golden grape loved by the Doges and almost lost to time, and the sheet of gold leaf still produced by hand by the Berta Battiloro family in Venice. The gold leaf is placed on the bottle, fired and blended into the glass on Murano. Afterwards, the number of each individual bottle, with respect to the number produced in that year’s vintage, is inscribed into the glass.
Wine tourists can discover the wines of Veinssa surrounded by vineyards and beautiful views.
The winery also offers luxury accommodation to any visiting wine lover making it the perfect base for discovering Venice and the the beauty of the islands from which the city rose up.
