Tour Overview
Sample the luxurious surroundings of the highest altitude wine region in the world: Colome, in the heart of Salta’s Valles Calchaquies with this 2-day luxury wine tour.
Enjoy a thrilling exploration of the northern part of the Valles Calchaquies, taking in some stunning scenery, and winding down in the glorious ambience of Colome wine resort, at 2200m altitude.
Itinerary:
Day 1: After pick-up from your hotel in Salta, travel through the tobacco region of the Valle de Lerma and up the windy mountain road of the Cuesta del Obispo, reaching a peak of 3,500m, where if you’re lucky you may see condors.
Then descend into the flat cactus landscape of the Parque Nacional de los Cardones and take the little-used rough and unmade colonial road to Molinos through the Mars-like red rock landscape of Los Colorados, en route to Colome wine resort.
At Colome you can taste single variety Malbecs grown at different altitudes between 1,700m and 2,600m, as well as Syrah, Tannat, Sauvignon Blanc, Bonarda and Pinot Noir, and of course, Salta’s classic Torrontes white variety. The wine resort also boasts the James Turrell museum, where the light-inspired artworks play tricks with your senses.
Enjoy an evening meal in Colome’s excellent restaurant, and a restful night in the luxury hotel.
Day 2: Late in the morning you will take a trip down the Camino de Artesanos in Seclantas to see ponchos being weaved by hand.
You will visit Molinos, with its historic manor house, and the picturesque town of Cachi, where there are two excellent boutique vineyards with Malbec, Torrontes, and (unusually for Salta) Merlot.
On the way back to Salta, enjoy spectacular views from 3,500m altitude along the way.
