Tour Overview
Discover the high altitude wine region of Salta, in Argentina’s Andean north west with this 2-day tour combining wine tastings with a culinary workshop making empanadas salteñas, a classic of the local cuisine.
You will tour the best vineyards in Cafayate, Salta’s premier wine town, and enjoy the opportunity to make one of Salta’s classic dishes.
Apart from Argentina’s emblematic Malbec, Salta is known for its Torrontes white wine, which finds its best expression in the Valles Calchaquies, a wonderful scenic spot close to the border with Bolivia. It’s a wine that goes perfectly with the regional speciality, empanadas (small pies of meat, chicken or cheese).
Itinerary:
Day 1: After pick-up at your hotel in Salta, travel down through the tobacco region of the Valle de Lerma and on into the Quebrada de las Conchas canyon, visiting the naturally carved wonders of the Amphitheatre and Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat).
Arrive in Cafayate in time for lunch and, of course, a wine tasting and a tour at one of the town’s newest wineries, Piattelli. After lunch, you can visit some of the smaller family-run wineries which date back to the late 19th century.
In the evening, stroll round the square to sample the delightful charms of small town Argentina, before dinner at one of the recommended restaurants.
Day 2: In the morning, you will enjoy a short tour to visit the spectacular quartz, limestone and sandstone formation of the Quebrada de las Flechas near Angastaco, before the empanada class. Each family has its own jealously-guarded recipe, but your chef will let you in on their secret methods.
For lunch, your home-cooked empanadas will be washed down with a Torrontes or Malbec, before your return to Salta through the red rock landscape of the Quebrada de las Conchas in its best (late afternoon) light.

25% of the reservation is refundable up until 2 months before departure time. Non refundable for cancellations occurring 14 days before departure time. In the case of Covid-related cancellations, the amount is held as a credit for a future tour.
