Winery Overview
The Pomario Winery is located on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, in the province of Perugia, near Monteleone di Orvieto.
Since 2004 Pomario – the estate, winery and farm - has been the passion of the Spalletti Trivelli family who have a strong connection with the world of wine-making. The estate was run down when they purchased it and years were spent carefully renovating the property and expertly caring for the vines and olive trees.
Originally there was only one hectare of vineyard located in the highest part of the property that was planted with old varieties of Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Malvasia. In 2010, another 8000 square metres were prepared using the terracing method. Sauvignon and Riesling were planted for the production of the desert wine, ‘Muffato’. Today, three hectares of vineyard are cultivated with Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Malvasia with the addition of 3000 square metres of a clone of Bordeaux Merlot.
Respect for the environment and the maintenance of ecological balances is an important underlying philosophy at Pomario. Modern, environmentally friendly processing systems are used to produce the estate’s high-quality wines and the finest extra virgin olive oil.
Wine lovers can enjoy guided tours of the winery and walks in the vineyards, the gardens and the olive grove. Tastings of the estate’s organic wines and olive oils take place in the bright tasting room and on the terrace that enjoys marvellous panoramic views over the vines and surrounding hills.
Visitors can choose from a one hour wine tasting experience to a full tour with tasting and a 4-course meal prepared from local produce
