Tour Overview
Day 1
Your first day will allow you to visit Kakheti region, Famous for being wine making area, as well as associated with welcoming hospitality. Here we can see both snowy Caucasus mountains and fertile valleys.
Firstly, visit a local Duke Alexander Chavchavadze`s estate and the garden formed in the 19th century in Tsinandali. The park and the house used to be the gathering place of all poets and artists of the 19th century.
Then, you will be taken around a winery to see the traditional methods of Georgian wine making. Since ancient times love to the wine has been deeply centre, we`ll be able to taste Georgian wines and have a lunch with Georgian cuisine.
Continue driving to the Georgian traditional wine cellar in the village of Kondoli. The host has a special love for wine, which is reflected in the quality of the wine produced by him. Here we will taste the most distinctive, natural wine `Zhghia` which is made from the rarest and highest quality Kakhetian grapes (only 6000 bottle in a year). It should be noted that this wine has already cleared its way to the European market.
Afterwards, take a short drive to the village of Vardisubani. In order to share closely the unique technology of wine making that Georgians have been using since ancient times, we will visit a local family. Here we will attend the process of making a «Qvevri” clay vessel. The host consistently describes all the details that make Georgian wine unique and Distinguished in the world.
Finally arrive in Telavi.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, we start the day by going to the town`s food markets, where you will see the enormous selections of fresh ingredients used in Georgian cooking. Your guide will accompany you to descripe all the different ingredients, fruits, and help you to buy those you wish to have.
Your tour continues by visiting the Village Naphareuli - Wine museum, which consists of four cellars: the old cellar, which is a closed type and currently functions as a bio cellar; an open-type cellar; a cellar created for scientific research and a closed cellar, arranged in the ground below the museum. The tasting cellar allows visual observation of the chemical processes taking place in Qvevri during wine making.
A visit to Kakheti is improbable without a local family lunch. The tradition of generously hosting a guest is especially felt here. The kindness of the hosts, the immediacy, the taste of home-made dishes and wine, create special emotions around the table. Afterwards, drive to the winery. As mentioned before, whole Kakheti region is famous for its rich and fertile soil, which makes the influential effect on veticulture and winemaking. Such as Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Kisi and other indigenous grapes are grown here.
Visit the Khareba winery and have wine tasting. Bottled wines of Winery Khareba are stored in wine tunnel, the length of which is 7.7 km; the cave consists of two main and 13 connecting tunnels. One of the entrances is open for guests. In this part, guests are allowed to see the cellar.
Following our visit, we will continue our short journey to 18th century beautiful, small town of Sighnaghi. Roaming through the maze of narrow streets, wandering up and down the stone pavements, you will find yourself transported to a distant past. Enjoy the stunny views of The Great Caucasus mountains and Alazani valley. Finally, drive to Tbilisi.
