Tour Overview
This private 7-day wine tasting tour visits not one but two Caucasus countries offering a comprehensive taste of the ancient wine world. You will visit the beautiful wine region of Kakheti with its Qvevri wine and the oldest winery ever found in Areni, sample Armenian Brandy and explore some of the region’s cultural highlights.
Day 1.
You will be met at your accommodation in central Tbilisi or at the airport, by your local guide. Begin your Caucasus adventure with a Tbilisi city tour, visiting some of the main highlights of this quirky and picturesque city. You will clearly see the many layers of civilization and phases of history that this city has witnessed.
Day 2.
Today you will be met at your hotel in central Tbilisi and driven out into the beautiful Kakheti wine region. You will make three winery stops today, one of which will be for lunch and one for your overnight stay. After enjoying a tour of the extremely interesting Shumi winery it’s off to Chubini for a tour, tasting and lunch with the owners and winemakers. You will then continue to a third winery where you will be staying overnight.
Day 3.
There will be three more winery visits today, plus a wander around the stunning Gremi fortress. Your visits today will include the very impressive Khareba cellars which consist of miles of tunnels dug into the mountains. You will taste and tour at Vakirelebi where you will also enjoy lunch, End the day in beautiful Sighnaghi, after a final tasting at the Pheasants Tears winery.
Day 4.
Today you will visit two boutique-style wineries where you can see modern approaches to traditional processes and speak directly to the people who make the wine you are tasting. You will also enjoy a visit to some traditional bakeries to see how some strange Georgian bread shapes are made. Returning from Kakheti you will be taken directly to the airport for the very short flight to Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel.
Day 5.
Explore your second capital city of the trip with a Yerevan city tour. In addition to visiting the city’s historical highlights, the tour includes visits to two brandy distilleries, the NOY and the Ararat, where you will learn more about Armenian Brandy. Your evening will be free to enjoy the range of wine bars found a short walk from your hotel.
Day 6.
Today will be spent exploring the Areni wine region. Stops will be made at two wineries, one of which will also be a lunch stop. The highlight for many will be a visit to the oldest winery ever found (some 6,100 years old), which is located in an ancient cave system. You will also have the chance to look around the Noravank monastery historical site.
Day 7.
Transfer to Yerevan airport in time for your onward flight. Depending on your flight time you may be able to add an extra activity today – ask us for suggestions.
