Tour Overview
This private 7-day wine tasting tour offers a comprehensive exploration of the Kakheti and Kartli wine regions of Georgia. Over the course of the week you will learn about the traditional Qvevri wine process, sample Chacha (the local brandy) and dine on traditional cuisine. Cultural and historical visits will complement your wine adventures.
Day 1.
Upon arrival at Tbilisi airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the historic centre of the city. Your evening will be free for wandering the old streets and enjoying dinner.
Day 2.
You will have a Tbilisi city tour today, visiting some of the main highlights of this quirky and picturesque city. You will clearly see the many layers of civilization and phases of history that this city has endured.
Day 3.
Today you will be met at your hotel in central Tbilisi and driven out into the beautiful Kakheti wine region. You will make three winery stops today, one of which will be for lunch and one for your overnight stay. After enjoying a tour of the extremely interesting Shumi winery it’s off to Chubini for a tour, tasting and lunch with the owners and winemakers. You will then continue to a third winery where you will be staying overnight.
Day 4.
There will be three more winery visits today, plus a wander around the stunning Gremi fortress. Your visits today will include the very impressive Khareba cellars which consist of miles of tunnels dug into the mountains. You will taste and tour at Vakirelebi where you will also enjoy lunch, End the day in beautiful Sighnaghi, after a final tasting at the Pheasants Tears winery.
Day 5.
Today you will visit two boutique-style wineries where you can see modern approaches to traditional processes and speak directly to the people who make the wine you are tasting. You will also enjoy a visit to some traditional bakeries to see how some strange Georgian bread shapes are made. In the evening you will be dropped back at your hotel in the capital Tbilisi.
Day 6.
Your wine tasting tour today will focus on Georgia’s Kartli wine region with visits to two wineries. First stop of the day will be at the bizarre Iron-age, rock-cut town of Uplistikhe. After time exploring this unusual archaeological site, enjoy two wineries and their wine in the afternoon. Lunch is included today also. Then it’s back to Tbilisi for your last evening.
Day 7.
Transfer to Tbilisi airport in time for your onward flight. Depending on your flight time you may be able to add an extra activity today – ask us for suggestions.
