Tour Overview
The coastal region of Setúbal, just south of Lisbon, is one of Europe’s unsung culinary destinations. It is home to scenic vineyards, olive groves, rice fields, and fertile farmlands, and this full-day private tour is an interesting introduction to the region’s wine, food and nature.
After a comfortable drive from Lisbon, you will start the day with a scenic horse ride on the mountain of Grandola or on the pristine coastline of the Setúbal region. All the horses are easy to ride, so you don’t need to be an experienced horse rider to enjoy this experience. It's a great way to see the breathtaking views of Setúbal.
Following your horse ride, transfer to a nearby winery that enjoys breathtaking views of the forest and the Atlantic Ocean.
Time for a relaxed lunch, which will be at one of the many terrific local restaurants where delicious fresh grilled fish and seafood is a speciality.
After lunch take a short drive to a winery that is known for its family wines and its focus on sustainability. Beyond producing excellent wines, landscape protection and respect for the environment are keystone principles for vineyards in the region. Here the viticulture and its varieties were chosen by following the land and the connection of the soil with the nearby sea. Production is low and all the work follows an integrated protection plan to ensure first quality grapes and guarantee a top-class raw material.
As an alternative to the last winery, you can visit a gin, rum, and ‘aguardente’ (brandy) distillery. The distillery was built in the middle of the Setubal countryside, where the black pigs roam freely and eat the acorn between the cork forest and the olive trees. The idea was to bring the scents and tastes of the Setúbal countryside and put them in a bottle.
