Azienda Agricola Cornarea

In 1974 Giampiero Bovone bought the Cornarea hill in Canale, located in the heart of Roero. This small hilly area on the border with the Langhe has been devoted to wine production since ancient times and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Langhe and Monferrato.

Giampiero’s goal was simple but ambitious: to replant Arneis, a native Roero white grape of ancient origins. At the beginning of the 1970’s this unique grape had almost completely disappeared. Only a few rows were to be found within the Nebbiolo grape vineyards. From 1975 to 1978, assisted by his wife Francesca, he proceeded to plant 15 hectares of vineyards: 12 with Arneis and 3 with Nebbiolo. Thus, Roero Arneis was born, and in 2005 it obtained the DOCG, at the same time as Roero, the great aged Nebbiolo of the area.

Today, in the historic Cornarea vineyards which are still owned and managed by the Bovone family, Roero Arneis, Roero, Nebbiolo d'Alba and Barbera are the speciality local wines produced Cornarea keeps a well defined philosophy in wine making: using modern technology, but at the same time respectful of tradition.
