Tour Overview
Discover how Bordeaux's history is intertwined with its wine, without even visiting the vineyards on this private wine tasting tour in Bordeaux.
Meet your expert guide at Place de la Bourse or your hotel if central. You will then hop on the city's modern tram to visit the Wine Museum, Le Musée du Vin et du Négoce, which is housed in the wine cellar of an 18th century building, originally a wine merchant's home. Here you will delve into the history of Bordeaux wines as well as the role of the négociant in the preparation and distribution of these wines.
After a guided tour through the museum’s exhibits, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some delicious Bordeaux wines in the museum’s tasting room.
Then stroll through the Chartrons neighborhood, the city's historic district used by wine merchants and barrel makers for the past 400 years. Fast becoming the city's chic neighbourhood with cafés, open-market plazas and other surprises, the Chartrons is often paralleled to Paris's intimate Marais district because of its charm.
You will see some of the old chais, some of which are 300 metres long, which were built to age and blend the Bordeaux wines. These days they are used as apartments, shops, art galleries and university classrooms!
Enjoy a second wine tasting in a local wine bar. If you have any questions about Bordeaux wines your expert guide will be happy to answer these.
