Tour Overview
Like Portuguese cuisine, the wines of the Alentejo remain little-known outside the country. That makes the journey around these parts all the more rewarding. You’ll find some exceptional wines here, with a mix of elegant, fresh reds, and mineral, well-balanced white wines.
After a comfortable drive from Lisbon arrive in the region of Igrejinha, to the north of the wine region of Alentejo. The vastness of the landscape is dotted with cork oaks and olive trees that withstand time, along with thousands of hectares of grapevines and space for cattle.
First stop of the day will be at a family-owned property that has been producing some of the most emblematic wines of the Alentejo region since 1991. The estate extends over about 800 hectares, including 50 hectares of vineyards, 40 of walnut orchard, and a vast area of meadows where sheep, deer, and fallow deer graze freely. Enjoy a tasting of the wines.
Continue with a visit to Évora. Classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Évora is one of the most ancient Portuguese Royal cities.
Time to enjoy an authentic lunch at a regional restaurant. You can expect fresh locally produced ingredients, prepared according to traditional methods. In Alentejo, you’ll find fresh sheep’s cheese, black pork, wild mushrooms, fresh herbs, roasted lamb and stew, artisan bread just to mention a few of the wide range of dishes of this region.
After lunch walk through the cobbled streets to enter an elegant wine store owned by a famous winery in the region that dates back to 1880. Here you will have the opportunity to taste various wines with differing profiles. The winery’s average annual production is around 800,000 bottles of wine, obtained exclusively from the grapes harvested in their vineyards.
You will end your day in a very relaxed way: a bath and relaxing massage in a local Spa. This spa seeks to recreate the atmosphere of the ancient Roman baths, being unique in Portugal. With your body and spirit refreshed it´s time for you to return to Lisbon.
