Set within the rolling hills of Kent, Balfour Winery at the Hush Heath Estate began with a simple love of wine, a handful of vineyards and the will to push boundaries. With the huge success of their first wine, Balfour Brut Rosé, they turned their passion into a family business.

Today, they are proud to offer an exceptional guest experience across 400 acres of pristine Kent countryside. From expert-led winery tours and guided wine tastings, to stunning vineyard walks and nature trails within ancient oak woodland. Open all year, they warmly invite you on a seasonal discovery of English wine and nature like no other.

The Balfour winery was built on the Hush Heath Estate in 2010 and allowed the family to take full creative control of their wines and ciders. They have sourced bespoke winemaking equipment including hand crafted, stainless steel tanks from Champagne and a bottling line from Italy.

In the autumn, Balfour Winery enjoys its busiest time of year and manages all of the apples and grapes from their land. None of the fruit has to travel long distances to the winery and they pride themselves on producing a range of sparkling and still wines and ciders which are uniformly characterized by a clean, crisp, and lively personality with concentrated fruit. Their immaculate facilities give them precise control over the winery pressing process and play an important role in this signature style.

Since 2002, they have been at the heart of the growing English Wine industry- winning National and International awards, and the acclaim of sommeliers and wine experts, to become one of England's most respected wine producers. Balfour Winery at Hush Heath Estate have been at the forefront of the growing English Wine movement with our flagship sparkling Balfour Brut Rosé being the first English Sparkling wine to be served in BA First Class and the official English wine of the London 2012 Olympics.

Today Balfour wines are enjoyed across the globe in some of the World's finest restaurants and bars.

Thursday – Sunday. 11:00am – 4:30pm.

Your day begins with a private transfer from Marden train station (if required). Where you will be met by one of our Balfour Ambassadors who will be your personal guide throughout your visit.

Upon arrival at the winery, enjoy a glass of our signature Balfour Brut Rosé on our upstairs terrace overlooking Nannette’s vineyard.

Our Balfour Ambassador will show you hidden areas of the Estate not available on other tours. You’ll be provided with an in-depth insight into our viticulture practices, our woodland and wildflower conservation programme and the wonderful wildlife and nature that live on our 400-acre Estate, creating our own ecosystem with vast biodiversity.

After the tour you will visit our state-of-the-art Winery where you will be given a comprehensive overview of the winemaking and production techniques used for our still and sparkling wines. This will be followed by a tutored tasting, in our owner’s private tasting room, of six Balfour wines including new release and limited-edition wines.

Following your tutored tasting, relax and enjoy a delicious, seasonal three-course lunch expertly prepared by our resident chef. Each course will be paired with a glass of wine specially selected by our Head Winemaker, Fergus Elias.

At the end of your afternoon, a private transfer will take you back to Marden train station.

Indulge in the secrets of the Hush Heath Estate history either from the edge of Nannette’s Vineyard (weather permitting) or the balcony overlooking the Manor while one of our knowledgeable tour guides bring to life some fascinating stories from our past. Then become immersed in the world of winemaking as our Head Winemaker, Fergus Elias, talks you through the process of winemaking from grape to glass in our short film. Finally, enjoy a tutored tasting of six Balfour wines.

On a Saturday and Sunday the winter wine experience includes a visit to our state-of-the-art winery where you will be guided around our modern facility showing winemaking and production techniques used for our still and sparkling wines.

Midweek you will be shown to our private mezzanine level in the tasting room where you will be immersed into the world of winemaking as our Head Winemaker, Fergus Elias, talks you through the winemaking process in our short film.

The relationship between wine and art is a fascinatingly intricate one and producing a portfolio of award-winning wines is an artform in itself.

We are incredibly lucky to have a selection of beautiful pieces of art and sculpture from Leslie Balfour-Lynn’s own private collection on display. Join one of our knowledgeable Balfour Tour Guides who will guide you around our Cellar Door where you will learn the story behind our most significant pieces of artwork and sculpture, whilst enjoying a glass of Balfour sparkling wine.

As part of the evening, you will enjoy in a tutored tasting of 3 Balfour wines and indulge in a sharing Warm Winter Platter of cheeses, including a baked camembert.
